'drawing strength' was an Exhibition of Drawing held at Montsalvat, in the main Barn Gallery, Eltham, Victoria from Saturday 17th November 2018 to Sunday January 6th 2019 .............................................. 'I have always understood drawing to be, in essence, the materialization of a continually mutable process, the movements, rhythms, and partially comprehended ruminations of the mind: the operations of thought.' Avis Newman* ..............................................
‘What drawing does is not to mirror what exists, but to realise it…If ‘drawing’ is a sub-category of that larger collectivity of objects, events and states of affairs we refer to as ‘works of art’, it must be allowed the least restrictive definition possible.' Michael Archer in Draw: Conversations Around the Legacy of Drawing, 2007
.............................................. ‘What is it to draw? How do we do it? Is it the act of clearing a path for oneself through an invisible iron wall?' Vincent Van Gogh, quoted in Jacques Derrida's 'Memoirs of the Blind' 1993
